There are plenty of stunning viewpoints in Porto. A lot, actually. But none quite like this one.
Porto 360 offers a completely different way to see the city — a rare and lesser-known perspective. It’s more than just climbing to a high spot for a few photos. The experience includes a guided tour inside one of Porto’s most iconic buildings, followed by a climb to the dome of the Super Bock Arena – Pavilhão Rosa Mota, with sweeping 360-degree views over the city and the Douro River.
It’s an experience we’d recommend to anyone, whether you’re visiting Porto for the first time or you’ve lived here your whole life. We’re from Northern Portugal, studied in Porto, consider Porto our city, and absolutely love it.
What is Porto 360?
The Super Bock Arena sits right in the middle of the Crystal Palace Gardens — which is why locals still use the old “Palácio de Cristal” name, even though the original building was demolished in the 1950s. The pavilion that stands there today was built in 1952 and recently renovated. It now hosts many of the city’s biggest concerts and events. And for the first time, visitors can climb all the way to the top of its dome.
The experience is called Porto 360 and is organized by Porto Secret Spots. There are two options available: a 20-minute visit that goes straight to the top of the dome, and a 45-minute version that includes a guided tour inside the building before the climb. We did the 45-minute tour — and didn’t regret it for a second.

What the Experience Was Like
We entered through Gate 3, right inside the gardens, where our guide was waiting for us. From the very beginning, the atmosphere felt relaxed — without the overly formal vibe that many large tourist tours tend to have.
We ended up doing the tour with just the two of us. Maybe because it was low season, but it made the experience feel even more personal and enjoyable. During peak season, there will probably be more people. Groups can have up to 13 participants.
The visit starts near the arena entrance, beside the ticket office, before moving on to an exhibition featuring archival photographs and documents that tell the story of the site from the 15th century to the present day, including the construction of the original Crystal Palace. That’s five centuries of history on one hill — and our guide brought it all to life brilliantly. We learned things we had never imagined about a place that many of us only associate with concerts and the (fantastic) gardens.
Next, we stepped into one of the private boxes overlooking the arena floor. It’s a completely different perspective. Seeing the space empty, with the entire structure exposed, is genuinely impressive.

And then came the best part — the climb to the top of the dome.
There are around 150 steps. We expected it to be harder, maybe even a little intimidating — but it really wasn’t. The climb is smooth and easy, clearly marked, and with handrails on both sides the entire way up.
And the view from the top? Everything. Ribeira, the Douro stretching all the way to the Atlantic, Clérigos Tower, Casa da Música, Luís I Bridge, and Serra do Pilar across the river. As we walked around the dome, our guide pointed out landmarks and shared stories about each one. It’s one of those moments that reminds you just how extraordinary Porto — and Vila Nova de Gaia — really are.
At the end, we got a surprise: a shot of Port wine served in a chocolate cup. We weren’t expecting it at all, and it was such a nice touch.

Is Porto 360 Worth It?
Absolutely. It’s one of the most original experiences we’ve had in Porto — and that says a lot, because we know the city well. It’s not just another viewpoint, even if it may well have the best view in the city. It combines history, architecture, and some of the best views of Porto, all in under an hour.
If you’re planning a trip to Porto, this is one experience we’d genuinely recommend making time for.
